This role involves building software for a content authoring platform used by creative teams for real-time collaboration. The team focuses on native macOS development, cloud backend systems, and a plugin framework for other Apple engineers. The position requires a hands-on approach to full-stack development, utilizing various programming languages and technologies. Candidates should be curious and willing to learn, especially in areas like multi-user editing and real-time synchronization.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Experience with native macOS or iOS development
  • Experience with backend development
  • Proficiency with at least two programming languages: Swift, TypeScript, Java, Kotlin, Ruby

  • Experience with SwiftUI
  • Familiarity with server-side Swift using the Vapor framework
  • Familiarity with Java or Kotlin and Spring Boot for backend services
  • Familiarity with WebSocket-based communication
  • Strong experience with React, including hooks, context, and modern React patterns
  • Experience designing APIs that other engineers build on
  • Experience with operational transform, CRDTs, or real-time synchronization systems

Responsibilities

  • Develop a native macOS application and its cloud backend
  • Build a React framework for creating plugins
  • Work across the entire technology stack, including Swift, Kotlin, and Node
  • Collaborate with other engineers to extend the platform's capabilities
  • Ensure a seamless and instant collaborative editing experience for users
  • Maintain a focus on the craft of software development beyond just shipping features

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage.
