Job description
The CPU MicroArchitect / RTL Engineer role at Apple involves leading microarchitecture and RTL development for high-performance microprocessors. This position is part of the Silicon Engineering Group, which focuses on innovative products like the iPhone and Mac. The engineer will work on microarchitecture development, RTL design, and validation while collaborating with a multifunctional engineering team. The role requires a combination of technical leadership and hands-on engineering expertise.
Requirements
- Minimum BS degree and 15+ years of relevant industry experience
- Knowledge of microprocessor architecture
- Proficiency in Verilog and/or VHDL
- Experience with simulators and waveform debugging tools
- Understanding of logic design principles along with timing and power implications
- Previous experience leading a team of senior engineers in microarchitecture definition and RTL development
- Record of mentoring and supporting the career development of other engineers
- Expertise in areas of microprocessor architecture such as instruction fetch and decode, branch prediction, and out-of-order execution
- Understanding of low power microarchitecture techniques and high performance techniques
- Experience in C or C++ programming and using an interpretive language such as Perl or Python
Responsibilities
- Own or participate in microarchitecture development and specification from high-level exploration to detailed specification
- Develop, assess, and refine RTL design to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals
- Support test bench development and simulation for functional and performance verification
- Explore high performance strategies and validate that the RTL design meets targeted performance
- Collaborate with a multifunctional engineering team to implement and validate physical design aspects
