Job description
The role is for a highly motivated product design engineer within Apple's Softgoods Engineering team, which focuses on innovative products made from textiles, leather, and soft polymers. The team aims to enhance existing product lines and create new categories by applying engineering precision to soft materials. This position involves collaboration with various groups, including Industrial Design and Hardware Engineering, to conceive and launch new products. The engineer will also engage with vendors and support manufacturing processes.
Requirements
- BS in Mechanical Engineering
- At least 3 years of experience in production part design utilizing a variety of engineering materials
- Good engineering fundamentals including beam bending, free body diagrams, and GD&T
- 3D and 2D CAD skills, with NX preferred
- Solid verbal and written presentation skills using Keynote or Powerpoint
- Experience using spreadsheets to analyze engineering data such as FAI/CPK and tolerance analysis
- Experience engaging with manufacturers
- Knowledge of soft goods materials including synthetics, leather, and adhesives
- Knowledge of soft goods assembly processes such as bonding, cutting, and stitching
- MS degree in Engineering is preferred
Responsibilities
- Conceive, design, validate, and launch exciting new products as part of a cross-functional team
- Collaborate with Industrial Design, System PD, Hardware Engineering, and other groups
- Define CAD, create drawings, and work with vendors to produce parts
- Perform engineering analyses on designs using methods such as hand calculation and computer simulation
- Assemble early prototypes and travel to China to support engineering builds
- Solve problems on the assembly line
