As a CPU Performance Engineer, you will concentrate on optimizing the memory subsystem and improving CPU and cache micro-architecture. The role involves identifying performance bottlenecks and collaborating with experienced designers to refine ideas and assess their feasibility. You will also analyze workloads to find opportunities for improvement and help maintain the simulation environment for data-driven decisions.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Experience in CPU and SOC architecture and micro-architecture
  • Experience with performance simulation environments
  • Object-oriented programming experience in C/C++
  • Experience in a scripting language such as Perl or Python
  • Knowledge of memory latency tolerance techniques or other aspects of CPU memory subsystem
  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • MS or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Understanding of common data structures and algorithms
  • Familiarity with SIMD, vector, or accelerator architectures
  • Familiarity with MP performance
  • Experience in a research-driven environment

Responsibilities

  • Define and optimize CPU and cache micro-architecture.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks in designs and evaluate ideas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with CPU and SoC designers to assess the feasibility of ideas through modeling.
  • Analyze single-threaded and multi-threaded workloads to identify bottlenecks.
  • Maintain and improve the simulation environment for data-driven decisions.
  • Seek out areas for improvement and seed new ideas within the team.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
