Job description
The Optical Engineer will be part of the Camera Hardware Engineering group at Apple, focusing on advanced optical technology development. This role involves working on new lens designs and their integration into camera modules. The engineer will collaborate closely with lens suppliers and conduct comprehensive analysis to enhance image quality. The position requires a strong background in optics and experience with various optical design tools.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Manufacturing, or a similar field.
- Experience in lens design and optical metrology.
- Experience in tolerance analysis, especially with multi-group optics such as zoom lenses.
- Experience in stray light analysis.
- Proficiency with ZEMAX, CODE V, FRED, LightTool, or similar software.
- Working knowledge of thin film physics and fabrication.
- Working knowledge of optomechanics.
- Working knowledge of CAD software and understanding of optical components drawing.
Responsibilities
- Work on new lens design, characterization, and integration into CMOS imager sensor-based camera modules.
- Drive the development of advanced metrology techniques.
- Complete analysis of the optical element's influence on the image quality characteristics of the camera module.
- Collaborate closely with lens suppliers for prototype design, evaluation, and MTF testing.
- Support metrology methodology for camera lens testing and develop appropriate test charts and methods for camera evaluation.
- Interface with assembly and packaging groups to support the integration of camera lenses into modules.
