Job description

The Messages team is seeking a hands-on engineering manager who is passionate about personal communication. This role involves leading a team of engineers focused on the on-device architecture that manages Messages data across various platforms. The manager will collaborate with other teams to enhance app architecture and contribute to the product roadmap. The position emphasizes privacy and aims to deliver a secure and expressive messaging experience for users worldwide.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of prior hands-on iOS or macOS application development.
  • A minimum of 2 years team management experience ideally leading teams developing iOS or macOS applications.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming.
  • Experience with SQLite, CloudKit, or XPC.
  • Outstanding ability to identify and resolve sophisticated problems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across organizations.
  • Empathetic leader who enjoys mentoring both junior and senior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team of engineers focused on the on-device architecture that stores, vends, and syncs Messages data.
  • Collaborate closely with peer managers on protocols, security, platform API, and user experience.
  • Work with the design team and other partners to define new features.
  • Coordinate engineering plans, prioritize and triage bugs.
  • Deliver on one of the most used messaging apps in the world.
