JobsPrototyping Systems Engineer - Platform Architecture
Job description
The role is part of Apple's Platform Architecture group, focusing on developing forward-looking prototype systems that integrate hardware and software. The team creates 'livable prototypes' that serve as complete product concepts rather than mere demonstrations. Members of the team are self-motivated generalists who collaborate closely with engineers across Apple. The position involves participating in system design, preparing operating systems, and debugging hardware prototypes.
Requirements
- BS in CS, CE, EECS, or similar engineering degree
- Experience in design of computer systems
- Experience in C/C++
- Experience with common hardware interfaces such as PCI, UART, I2C, SPI, or USB
- Exposure to low-level system software such as operating systems, bootloaders, and device drivers
- 3+ years of industry experience
- MS or PhD in CS, CE, EECS, or similar engineering degree
- Ability to work with EEs for hardware bringup and debug of prototypes
- Ability to read and understand block diagrams, schematics, and datasheets
- Familiarity with microcontrollers, both hardware and firmware
- Familiarity with ARM architecture, Cortex-A and Cortex-M profiles
Responsibilities
- Participate in the overall system design of concepts from top-level diagrams to schematic reviews.
- Collaborate with software engineering partners to prepare the OS, bootstrap, and device drivers for projects.
- Work with electrical engineers and mechanical engineers on hardware bringup and debugging once hardware is fabricated.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
