Job description

Apple's Platform Architecture team is seeking a Simulation and Control Systems Engineer with a strong software background to develop advanced thermal and power management algorithms. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and validate algorithms for complex thermal and electrical systems. The engineer will also be responsible for executing experiments, analyzing data, and proposing solutions to ensure system performance and reliability. This position offers a unique opportunity to work across hardware and software domains and contribute to the performance of Apple's products.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science or similar degree.
  • 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, or Computer Science, with a focus on control systems or robotics, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Hands-on experience in control systems development.
  • Experience in Python or MATLAB.
  • Experience implementing control algorithms on embedded microcontroller platforms.
  • Proficiency in C++.
  • Strong knowledge of system identification, estimation theory, and statistical learning methods.
  • Knowledge of optimal and robust control, adaptive control, model predictive control and/or task and trajectory planning.
  • Experience with software engineering workflows, including Git, code review, and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, debug, and validate control and estimation algorithms for complex thermal and electrical systems.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical and thermal engineering teams to interpret system requirements and constraints.
  • Partner with software engineering teams to ensure robust, scalable, and efficient integration of control algorithms.
  • Design and execute experiments for modeling and validation.
  • Collect and analyze data to identify potential issues.
  • Propose thoughtful fixes and architectural decisions to ensure system performance and reliability.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
