Job description

Apple's Silicon Security team is seeking an ASIC Design Engineer to develop secure subsystems for Apple SoCs. This role focuses on designing advanced hardware defenses against side channel attacks to protect sensitive customer data. The engineer will work closely with various teams to ensure high performance and security in the design process. The position requires a strong background in digital design and hardware security concepts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a relevant field.
  • 3 years of industry experience in RTL design using Verilog or SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with CDC (Clock Domain Crossing) and RDC (Reset Domain Crossing) analysis and verification.
  • Familiarity with low-power design techniques and UPF (Unified Power Format).
  • Solid understanding of digital design fundamentals including synthesis, timing closure, and design for testability.
  • Background in cryptography and cryptographic algorithm implementation.
  • Experience with hardware security concepts including key management, physical attack, and countermeasures.
  • Experience with clock and reset architecture at the subsystem level.
  • Strong knowledge of AMBA bus protocols (AXI, AHB, APB).

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design state-of-the-art security features in collaboration with Platform Architecture and Design Verification.
  • Integrate security IPs into secure subsystems while ensuring timing, performance, and security requirements are met.
  • Resolve integration issues across multiple IP blocks and coordinate with IP owners on interface and functionality concerns.
  • Drive front-end quality flows from RTL to netlist, including hands-on work with Lint, CDC/RDC analysis, UPF development, timing, and synthesis.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools to enhance design quality and productivity.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
