Job description
The CPU Performance Engineer will join the CPU Architecture and Performance Team, focusing on advancing CPU micro-architecture for next-generation devices like iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This role involves innovating in areas such as branch prediction and CPU pipelines while collaborating with experienced designers. The engineer will analyze workloads to identify performance bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement. The team emphasizes data-driven decisions and enhancing productivity in a challenging environment.
Requirements
- BS degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science
- 10+ years of relevant industry experience
- Experience with CPU architecture and micro-architecture
- Experience in performance and/or power simulation environments
- Coding experience including object-oriented programming with C and C++
- Experience in scripting languages such as Perl or Python
- Understanding of common data structures and algorithms
- Knowledge in software design patterns
- Familiarity with SIMD and vector architectures
- Knowledge of OS internals and compiler technologies
- Comfortable in an environment of uncertainty and able to walk through ambiguities
- Strong communication, influence, and negotiation skills
Responsibilities
- Analyze specific single-threaded and multi-threaded workloads to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with CPU designers to assess the feasibility of ideas through modeling.
- Collect data and measurements to confirm or rule out ideas for improvement.
- Maintain and improve the simulation environment to enable data-driven decisions.
- Seek out areas for innovation in CPU micro-architecture.
