Job description

Apple is seeking an experienced Server Hardware Engineer to join their hardware development team focused on engineering perfection and innovation. The role involves evaluating next-generation server platforms and guiding strategic decisions on processor selection. The ideal candidate will work closely with various teams to ensure efficient and cost-effective compute platforms for the Compute cloud infrastructure. This position requires a passion for developing extraordinary products that impact billions of users.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in server hardware engineering, CPU architecture evaluation, or performance engineering.
  • Strong understanding of microarchitecture concepts including pipelines, branch prediction, and out-of-order execution.
  • Experience evaluating and comparing Intel Xeon, AMD EPYC, and ARM.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, cloud workloads, virtualization, and container infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in benchmarking tools and workload profiling.
  • Familiarity with telemetry and observability stacks.
  • Experience with large-scale cloud providers or high-performance computing environments.
  • Expertise in power/performance tuning and BIOS optimization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex issues.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate next-generation server platforms and assess workload requirements.
  • Guide strategic decisions on processor selection across various architectures.
  • Collaborate closely with SRE, platform engineering, and capacity planning teams.
  • Ensure the Compute cloud infrastructure runs on the most efficient compute platforms.
  • Build internal performance dashboards and analytics tools.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
