Job description

Apple is seeking an enthusiastic Anthropometry Engineer to join a collaborative team focused on anthropometry and 3D data capture. The role involves contributing to the development of Apple hardware products by designing mechanical rigs and implementing scanning protocols. Candidates will work at the intersection of various disciplines, requiring excellent communication and curiosity to explore new domains. The position supports Human Factor Engineers and Simulation Engineers by providing data and insights for product development.

Requirements

  • MS + 3 years of experience or PhD in an analytical field such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Design, Physics, Metrology, or Human Factors Engineering.
  • Experience with designing user-studies that leverage motion capture, photogrammetry, laser scanning, and other electro-mechanical sensors.
  • Strong programming skills in a scripting language such as Python, R, or Matlab.
  • 3+ years of experience using CAD and basic lab tools for design and fabrication.
  • Familiarity with medical, comfort, fit, biomechanics, and ergonomics research.
  • Experience prototyping 3D models for testing and validation.
  • Experience using statistics to identify trends and anomalies in datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Develop instrumentation to capture human movement and product interaction.
  • Conduct manual and automated 3D data capture for user-centered research and evaluation.
  • Process, clean, and verify the integrity of 3D data.
  • Investigate new 3D data sources to improve insights.
  • Establish trust-based relationships with design, engineering, and product development groups.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
