Job description

The Biophotonics software team at Apple is seeking a hands-on Software Engineer to contribute to the development of embedded platform architecture and system software. This role involves working closely with other software engineers and the wider engineering team to create innovative software solutions that support research and development activities. The candidate will tackle a variety of challenges, from embedded firmware to full stack applications, while collaborating with experts from diverse backgrounds. The focus is on delivering critical features and enhancing the functionality of Apple's groundbreaking products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, or a combination of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
  • Development experience in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, Java, Go, Rust, Scala, or Swift.
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle including requirements gathering, design, development, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Foundational software engineering experience with object-oriented or concurrent programming languages in an industrial setting.
  • Exposure to board bring-up and the ability to interpret and navigate schematics and layouts.
  • Experience debugging using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Experience with software support tools including the Unix command line, shell scripting, and version control software.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to software architecture definitions and create development plans.
  • Translate application feature requests into reusable software.
  • Execute plans for new and existing embedded applications.
  • Work on automation and control of embedded platforms.
  • Manage data acquisition and develop software support tools and associated services.
  • Balance a wide range of technically diverse tasks with varying timelines.
