Job description
The Senior Engineer role at Apple focuses on transitioning to a scalable, self-service data mesh within the Data Solutions & Initiatives team. Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in software/data engineering with a focus on data architecture
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or Java/Scala/Go
- Proficiency in data modeling, SQL, partitioning strategies, and query optimization
- Hands-on experience with modern data stack technologies such as Flink, Kafka, dbt, Airflow, Spark, or Iceberg
- Experience with Open Table Formats like Apache Iceberg or Delta Lake
- Solid experience building APIs, services, and distributed systems
- Proven track record of implementing CI/CD, automated testing, and data quality validation
- Experience with cloud and containerized systems such as AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, and Docker
- Experience building internal data platforms or developer-facing tools
- Solid experience with data mesh and 'Data as a Product' principles
- Experience building data foundations for GenAI or ML workflows
- Knowledge of data governance, lineage, and metadata systems
Responsibilities
- Design and own data products delivered through software, including curated datasets and APIs.
- Build batch and real-time streaming pipelines and backend services.
- Drive architecture, system design, and engineering standards.
- Collaborate closely with data, platform, and product teams.
- Take full ownership of services and ensure they are cloud-native.
- Experiment boldly and move quickly in a dynamic team environment.
