Job description
The Software Engineer, Cross-Platform Material role at Google focuses on developing shader technology to enhance user experiences across multiple platforms. As part of the Google Design Platform team, the engineer will work on Project Borealis, which aims to deliver high-fidelity animations and effects. This position requires expertise in shader development and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure performance and quality. The role also involves managing project priorities and contributing to the technical foundation of Google's flagship products.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
- 8 years of experience as a Front-end Software Developer
- Experience writing shaders in multiple dialects, including Android AGSL, iOS Metal Shader Language, and Web GLSL/WebGL
Responsibilities
- Prototype and design desired treatments and 'Energy' effects in collaboration with the Borealis cross-functional team
- Develop high-quality shaders for Project Borealis across Web and Native platforms
- Create performance measurement plans and assist platform-specific teams in making Borealis effects performant
- Identify and resolve visual artifacts and animation issues in shader prototypes
- Lead technical working sessions with partners to define API requirements and performance characteristics for shader subsystems
