The Manager in Responsible Development & Safety at Apple Services Engineering will shape policies and evaluation processes to ensure the safe deployment of user-facing features. This role involves collaboration with engineering, research, and product teams to assess the impact of AI features. The manager will lead a small team focused on safety evaluations and best practices in AI development. The position requires expertise in the societal implications of technology to enhance the safety development ecosystem.

• Ph.D., J.D. or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, and/or Human-Computer Interaction
• 5+ years of proven experience with AI product and/or user policies in multiple regions of the world
• Strong understanding of challenges in Responsible AI and/or Safety through relevant governance, policy, legal or research experience
• Experience working directly with LLMs, LMMs, and generative AI in a development and/or evaluation capacity
• 5+ years of experience managing AI evaluations with diverse collaborators, including Product, Engineering, Security, and Legal teams
• Strong management skills and effective communication abilities in tight turnaround times
• Excellent collaboration experience with technical stakeholders and interdisciplinary teams
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Shape policies and evaluation processes for safe and responsible deployment of user-facing features
• Build guidelines for internal engineering, human evaluation, and safety research teams
• Identify risks and contribute to mitigation strategies for new product features
• Collaborate with engineering, research, and product teams to assess and measure the impact of ASE features
• Ensure safety best practices and review AI model performance

• Lead a small team in developing and conducting safety evaluations
