Job description

The Haptic Engineering team at Apple is focused on developing innovative haptic solutions that enhance user experience across products like the iPhone and Apple Watch. This role seeks a finite element analyst to model complex physics and assess design concepts prior to physical implementation. The team values creativity, engineering excellence, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving. Candidates should be prepared to tackle new challenges daily and contribute to the exploration of haptic technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Familiarity with Abaqus, ANSYS, COMSOL, or other FEA tools, with a preference for Abaqus
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in solid mechanics, dynamics, and fracture mechanics
  • Proficiency with statistical data analysis and data visualization
  • Experience with 3D CAD, with a preference for NX
  • Team-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Project experience in consumer electronics products design
  • Design and/or research experience with haptic technologies
  • Experience with automating FEA model creation workflows
  • Experience using AI tools to accelerate scripting
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as JMP, MATLAB, and Excel
  • High volume mass production experience
  • Experience in material modeling and digital image correlation
  • Experience with commercial preprocessing software such as Hypermesh, Simlab, and ANSA

Responsibilities

  • Enhance understanding of complex physics through accurate FEA modeling
  • Empower the design team to uncover design weaknesses during concept development
  • Identify root causes of engineering failures when physical measurement is challenging
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to explore innovative solutions
  • Model complex physics to assess design concepts before physical implementation

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
