JobsSoC Physical Design Methodology Engineer
Job description
The role of a Physical Design Methodology Engineer at Apple involves crafting and implementing methodologies that significantly impact the design of upcoming products. You will collaborate with multi-functional teams to optimize power, performance, and area (PPA) for System on Chips (SoCs). This position requires a strong focus on electrical analysis and the development of construction methodologies to enhance design robustness. You will also work closely with the standard cell team and CAD teams to drive improvements in production design flows.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in physical design methodology.
- Strong intellectual curiosity and excellent communication skills.
- Experience with advanced technology nodes and SoC designs.
- Deep knowledge of interconnects, parasitic extraction, and performance analysis.
- Understanding of power delivery and power-supply noise effects on chip performance.
- Experience with circuit design and Spice simulations.
- Familiarity with static timing analysis tools and methodologies.
- Proven understanding of scripting languages such as Python and Tcl.
Responsibilities
- Create and implement methodologies to improve the robustness, power, performance, and area of on-chip interconnects.
- Perform electrical analysis to understand the impact of physical effects on design performance.
- Develop construction methodologies to mitigate PPA degradation found in silicon.
- Run signoff flows and compare results to silicon measurements for efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with the standard cell team to identify new cells that enhance PPA, yield, or productivity.
- Drive improvements and updates in production design flows with CAD and design teams.
- Verify theories by creating strategies to validate them in silicon.
- Apply advances in data science and machine learning in methodology crafting.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
