Job description
The Machine Learning Engineer role at Apple's Camera Algorithm team focuses on developing innovative machine learning technologies for real-time auto-focus in camera products. The position requires a technical leader to manage the architecture and productization of advanced algorithms. The engineer will work independently to shape the long-term machine learning roadmap and ensure seamless user experiences in various lighting conditions. Collaboration with hardware and firmware teams is essential to optimize system-level flows and influence future designs.
Requirements
- MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in defining datasets for machine learning network training on low-level vision tasks.
- Expertise in modern machine learning frameworks and libraries, specifically PyTorch or TensorFlow/TFLite/LiteRT.
- Strong software engineering and architectural skills, highly skilled at coding in Python and C.
- Good knowledge of optics and image quality metrics impacting critical image sharpness evaluation.
- Track record of pioneering innovation comprising publications in top-tier computer vision conferences or patents.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture, rapid prototyping, and productization of advanced machine learning-based auto-focus algorithms.
- Drive the long-term ML roadmap for auto-focus by designing novel learning-based systems.
- Coordinate the activities of sub-teams to create sophisticated architecture, training, and tooling for machine learning-based auto-focus development.
- Partner with the SOC architecture team to influence future silicon designs.
- Evaluate new camera components impacting auto-focus in collaboration with the hardware team.
- Optimize system-level flows for machine learning algorithms with the firmware team.
