This role involves leading the architecture and productization of advanced algorithms that enhance the user experience in various lighting conditions. The engineer will work independently to shape the long-term roadmap for machine learning in auto-focus. Collaboration with hardware and firmware teams is essential to optimize system-level flows and influence future designs.
Requirements
- MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in defining datasets for machine learning network training on low-level vision tasks.
- Expertise in modern machine learning frameworks and libraries, specifically PyTorch or TensorFlow/TFLite/LiteRT.
- Strong software engineering skills, proficient in coding in Python and C.
- Experience with machine learning for practical low-level computer vision applications.
- Good knowledge of optics and image quality metrics.
- Track record of pioneering innovation with publications or patents in computer vision.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture and rapid prototyping of machine learning-based auto-focus algorithms.
- Drive the long-term ML roadmap for auto-focus technologies.
- Coordinate activities of sub-teams to develop sophisticated architecture and tooling for auto-focus development.
- Partner with the SOC architecture team to influence silicon designs.
- Evaluate new camera components with the hardware team that impact auto-focus.
- Optimize system-level flows for machine learning algorithms with the firmware team.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
