Job description

Apple is seeking a Photonics Design Engineer to develop innovative integrated photonic devices for breakthrough sensing applications in Apple products. The role involves collaboration within an optical science team and across multiple disciplines to demonstrate new photonic components and sensor concepts. The engineer will focus on the design, simulation, and characterization of silicon photonic components. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the next generation of photonic integrated circuits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent fields
  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Master's or PhD degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent fields
  • Deep understanding of optoelectronics, photonics, and semiconductor devices
  • Extensive design and modeling experiences of passive and active components on SOI platforms
  • Experience in designing MUX/DeMUX components
  • Strong programming skills and proficiency in statistical data analysis in Python, Matlab, JMP or similar

Responsibilities

  • Design and simulate silicon photonic components
  • Characterize photonic devices to enable new applications
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to demonstrate new sensor concepts
  • Mitigate high order modes and manage polarization in circuit designs
