Job description

The Hardware System Engineer will be responsible for designing innovative system solutions for Apple's wireless charging ecosystem, bridging hardware, software, and mechatronics. This role involves developing automated test solutions for both lab and high-volume manufacturing environments. The engineer will work closely with hardware and silicon design teams to ensure product quality and resolve design issues. Additionally, the position requires research into emerging technologies and effective communication of findings to management and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years in hardware systems design.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals with the ability to identify design tradeoffs.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring up, debug, and validate circuitry.
  • Solid programming experience in C/C++/Python for tools development.
  • Ability to travel internationally to manufacturing sites, up to 20%.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems instrumentation design, especially around wireless charging.
  • Understanding of embedded systems concepts.
  • Skilled in testing embedded systems and familiar with standard hardware protocols (USB, SPI, and I2C).
  • Proficient in scripting Python/PERL/Shell.
  • Hands-on experience with debugging tools and equipment.
  • Knowledgeable in production control processes and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Design automated test solutions that scale from bench-level characterization to high-volume manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with hardware and silicon design teams to ensure new products meet Apple's standards.
  • Develop validation strategies and execute electrical and system-level validation across build cycles.
  • Research emerging technologies to understand failure mechanisms and develop software solutions.
  • Continuously improve testing speed, coverage, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Parse, plot, and analyze data sets from low-volume characterization to high-volume production.
  • Present key developments and findings to management and cross-functional teams.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
