Job description

In this role, you will join Apple's Platform Architecture group as a motivated engineer focused on deprocessing, imaging, and analyzing silicon to extract critical insights that inform Apple's silicon roadmap. You will work with a team to understand complex systems and their impact on Power, Performance, and SoC design. Your contributions will directly influence the quality and efficiency of future Apple products, ensuring that millions of customers can trust their devices. A passion for the semiconductor and consumer electronics industry is essential.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a similar engineering degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 10 years of industry experience in semiconductor physical analysis.
  • Experience with layer-by-layer deprocessing techniques including chemical etch and mechanical polish.
  • Familiarity with silicon implementation and design concepts.
  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a similar engineering degree is preferred.
  • Basic image analysis and scripting experience in Python or shell.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze silicon to extract intelligence on process technology and circuit design choices.
  • Coordinate with failure analysis labs and external vendors for deprocessing campaigns.
  • Produce clear reports and present findings to cross-functional silicon design teams.
  • Stay current with industry trends through conferences and publications.
  • Interpret and identify logic and memory library types from physical images.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
