Job description

The Sr Engineering Manager on the Applied Machine Learning team will lead software engineers in building tools and platforms that support Apple's enterprise GenAI initiatives. This role involves overseeing the technical execution and delivery of the GenAI platform, focusing on distributed compute, storage, ingestion, and inference. The manager will mentor engineers and collaborate with various internal teams to develop and deliver products. A strong background in distributed systems and generative AI is essential for success in this position.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience working on distributed systems
  • 6+ years of experience in a management or leadership role
  • Deep understanding of GenAI fundamentals
  • Deep understanding of Java, C, C++, or similar programming languages
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems like Flink, Spark, NoSQL, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills
  • Understanding of LLM inference and deployment
  • Understanding of RAG and Agentic systems
  • Past experience leading a scalable platform team

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers in building tools and platforms at scale for GenAI efforts
  • Oversee the technical execution and delivery of the GenAI platform
  • Work with software engineers and machine learning engineers to build RAG and Agentic platform components
  • Mentor and guide forward-thinking engineers
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal partners, researchers, product teams, and platform engineers
  • Own activities and interactions with teams across Apple for roadmap development and product delivery
