Job description
The Machine Learning Architect for Conversational Speech will lead the technical direction for Apple's speech technologies, focusing on speech recognition, synthesis, and multimodal interaction. This role involves defining modeling strategies and providing expert guidance across multiple teams within the Speech organization. The architect will evaluate emerging research and translate it into actionable roadmaps while ensuring production-readiness and alignment with Apple's AI strategy. The position requires a hands-on expert who can tackle complex technical challenges and collaborate with various partner teams.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in machine learning applied to speech or multimodal systems.
- Demonstrated expertise as a technical leader or architect defining modeling direction across multiple teams.
- Deep proficiency in modern deep learning, including large language models and end-to-end speech systems.
- Significant experience with multimodal LLMs, including architecture design and deployment of integrated models.
- Direct experience building speech-to-speech conversational systems with a strong understanding of natural conversational interaction.
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or a closely related field.
Responsibilities
- Define modeling strategy and technical direction across the Speech organization.
- Establish a unified architectural vision for speech technologies.
- Provide deep technical guidance to teams working on interconnected speech capabilities.
- Evaluate emerging research and industry trends and translate them into actionable roadmaps.
- Champion production-readiness by ensuring architectural decisions account for on-device constraints and scalability.
- Collaborate with partner teams across Siri, Apple Intelligence, hardware, and platform engineering.
