Job description

As a System Reliability Engineer at Apple, you will collaborate with diverse hardware teams to ensure products are durable, reliable, and exceed expectations. Your role will involve identifying high-risk failure modes early in the design process and working closely with design engineering teams to mitigate those risks. You will create innovative reliability tests based on the physics of failure and user behavior. Additionally, you will support failure analysis efforts and drive continuous product improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or an equivalent field
  • 3+ years of experience in a related field or industry
  • Understanding of the physics behind the mechanical and electrical properties of materials
  • Exposure to failure analysis techniques and the ability to derive root causes of failure
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally, as needed (up to 10 percent)
  • M.S. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or an equivalent field
  • Statistical experience such as Weibull, JMP, or familiarity with accelerated test models
  • Solid understanding of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong attention to details and curiosity about how technologies work
  • Collaborative attitude and ability to work cross-functionally effectively
  • A proactive, can-do attitude, with a passion for working alongside an amazing team and innovative products

Responsibilities

  • Identify high-risk failure modes early in the design process
  • Work closely with design engineering teams to reduce risks
  • Create new reliability tests based on the physics of failure and anticipated user behavior
  • Develop and deliver critical test equipment and specifications
  • Collaborate with vendors to meet testing deadlines
  • Support failure analysis efforts and offer design recommendations based on test data
  • Drive continuous product improvements
