Job description
The role of a system product design engineer at Apple involves taking ownership of modules and subsystems within the Apple Vision Pro product. The Vision Product Group is focused on designing, prototyping, and launching innovative products that blend digital content with physical space. This position requires collaboration with various engineering disciplines and external suppliers to ensure product reliability and performance. The engineer will also be responsible for developing validation plans and custom test fixtures.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics Engineering or similar.
- 6+ years of hands-on, detailed product design or mechanisms design experience.
- Knowledge in design for consumer electronics and wearables or mechanisms development.
- Strong design and analysis skills including CAD design, FEA analysis, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
- Practical experience working through DFM challenges with external vendors.
- Experience with vendor FAI/CPK dimensional reports.
- Excellent communication skills including verbal and written.
- Creative problem solving experience in failure analysis and root cause investigation.
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering or similar field is preferred.
- Fluency in Unigraphics NX and statistical software (JMP).
- Experience designing mechanisms and actuated systems.
- Experience working through the entire product cycle in consumer electronics, robotics, automotive, or aerospace.
- Ability to conceptualize, design, and build test fixtures.
- Understanding of tribology and validation of mechanisms.
- Experience taking designs through the product development cycle.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of modules and subsystems within the Apple Vision Pro product.
- Analyze, assemble, and ensure the reliability of product components.
- Develop and execute validation plans for product testing.
- Design custom test fixtures to validate product designs.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including Electrical Engineering and Industrial Design.
- Engage with external suppliers to address DFM challenges.
- Communicate technical concepts effectively to various teams.
- Solve complex problems related to product design and functionality.
