Job description

The ASIC Digital architect will play a crucial role in the Touch Technology team at Apple, focusing on the design and development of advanced Touch solutions for products like the iPhone and iPad. This position requires a strong background in digital design and chip architecture, particularly in touch or communications. The architect will work collaboratively in a hands-on environment to create optimized digital solutions for touch sensing ASICs. The role involves translating high-level user requirements into realizable systems while ensuring effective interaction with overall product designs.

Requirements

  • BS degree and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience.
  • Experience leading chip architecture and/or digital design, preferably in touch or communications.
  • Strong electrical engineering background in embedded system design, including ASIC microarchitecture and SoC architecture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Verilog, or similar simulation and modeling tools.
  • Ph.D. and a minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze applications to develop cost and power optimized digital designs for touch and sensing ASICs.
  • Architect Touch sensing systems and the ASICs required to implement them.
  • Translate high-level user requirements into detailed specifications and realizable systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify critical design interactions.
  • Engage in IC bring-up and debug processes.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
