Job description

Apple Service Engineering is looking for a Senior Software Release Engineer to play a crucial role in the development of next-generation datacenter and Private Cloud Compute initiatives. This position involves defining testing and validation strategies for distributed systems that will support Apple's cloud architecture. The engineer will work closely with hardware and software teams to ensure the quality and scalability of complex systems. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys tackling challenging problems and leading critical initiatives.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years in release engineering, build infrastructure, and production releases.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience; MS or PhD is a plus.
  • Expertise with large-scale build systems and C++/Swift/Python toolchains.
  • Experience with CI/CD at scale and a strong judgment on cost, cache, and flake reduction.
  • A track record of shipping on tight, non-negotiable deadlines tied to OS or hardware launches.
  • Experience validating ML or LLM workloads on hardware accelerators such as GPUs, NPUs, or Apple Silicon.
  • Familiarity with Apple development tools, Swift, or Objective-C.
  • Experience building test infrastructure for systems at the hardware-software boundary.
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency and performance profiling techniques for high-performance computing workloads.
  • Experience contributing to or defining test strategy at an organizational level.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the test strategy, automation infrastructure, and validation frameworks for distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with hardware and platform teams to validate novel compute platforms before production.
  • Build tooling and automation infrastructure to enable the engineering organization to operate efficiently.
  • Provide senior-level technical leadership for initiatives related to test architecture.
  • Resolve complex system-level issues in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Adapt, validate, and scale software on novel compute platforms.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
