The Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer role at Google focuses on leading the development, qualification, and continuous improvement of mechanical parts within the Global Manufacturing Operations team. This position is crucial for ensuring that Google's custom-designed equipment meets the highest quality standards and is delivered on time. The engineer will work closely with Contract Manufacturers and collaborate with design engineers to align infrastructure needs with product specifications. The role emphasizes building strategic partnerships and optimizing manufacturing processes to support Google's expansive cloud infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in mechanical sustaining engineering.
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Product Life-cycle Management (PLM), Engineering Change Order (ECO) management, and fabrication processes.
  • Proficiency in 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools such as SolidWorks or Creo.

Responsibilities

  • Build, source, and test mechanical components while ensuring seamless system integration with electrical engineers.
  • Define core manufacturing standards and oversee process changes to ensure compliance across contract manufacturers.
  • Support qualification builds and guarantee production readiness for mechanical components.
  • Act as the frontline lead for manufacturing interrupts and escalations, identifying opportunities for Design for Excellence.
  • Implement continuous improvement projects to optimize overall production performance.
