Job description

The role is for an RTL Engineer within Apple's Silicon Engineering Group, focusing on CPU architecture and microarchitecture development for low power mobile devices. The team is dedicated to designing high-performance microprocessors that power Apple's innovative products. The engineer will be involved in developing RTL for next generation CPUs, ensuring that designs meet power, performance, and area goals. This position requires collaboration with multifunctional engineering teams to validate physical designs.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with either Verilog or VHDL.
  • Experience with microprocessor architecture.
  • Experience with simulators and waveform debugging tools such as Verdi.
  • Knowledge of logic design principles.
  • Understanding of timing, power, and area tradeoffs in CPU microarchitecture.
  • Understanding of low power and high performance microarchitecture techniques.
  • Experience using an interpretive language such as Perl or Python.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in microarchitecture development and specification from high-level exploration to detailed specification.
  • Own the development, assessment, and refinement of new RTL features targeting power, performance, area, and timing goals.
  • Support test bench development and simulation for functional and performance verification.
  • Explore high performance strategies and validate that the RTL design meets targeted performance.
  • Work with multifunctional engineering teams to implement and validate physical design aspects such as timing, area, reliability, testability, and power.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
