Job description

The AirPods System Technologies Team is seeking electrical engineers to define technologies for future products. The team focuses on architecting and delivering features that meet challenging physical and power constraints. Engineers will develop system-level specifications and analyze designs for custom silicon. The role involves investigating new technologies and conducting feasibility studies for novel systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of proven experience in electronic system design or top-level chip architecture.
  • Excellent fundamentals in electrical engineering, including basic circuits, analog, digital, and power.
  • Familiarity with open-ended constraints and user experience to define electrical requirements.
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Acquaintance with the ASIC/semiconductor development and manufacturing process.
  • Familiarity with common digital architecture fundamentals such as memory and power state management.
  • Understanding of how computer design tradeoffs affect power consumption.
  • Ability to traverse the full stack from analog sensing front ends through digital signal processing.
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing techniques and implementation tradeoffs.
  • Ability to understand tradeoffs among electrical, mechanical, and software domains.
  • Practical knowledge of various communication protocols, especially USB, SPI, I2C, and UART.
  • Hands-on experience in prototype bring-up, debugging, and functional verification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop system-level specifications for custom silicon designs.
  • Analyze and review designs from in-house designers and third-party vendors.
  • Evaluate integration of sensing and signal processing subsystems into broader architecture.
  • Investigate new technologies to deliver groundbreaking features.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for novel systems during early concept phases.
  • Comprehend end-user features and translate them into low-level electrical specifications.
  • Mitigate coexistence issues at the architectural level.
  • Consider power and physical constraints in design solutions.
  • Navigate tradeoffs across various engineering disciplines to achieve realizable solutions.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
