Job description

Join Apple's Silicon Engineering Group as an Analog Layout Automation Engineer, where you will play a crucial role in developing the next generation of systems-on-chip (SOCs) for iconic devices. This position focuses on the evolution of Analog/Mixed-Signal circuits, emphasizing automation and the application of AI/ML techniques to enhance design efficiency. You will work closely with circuit designers and utilize advanced CAD tools to create high-performance layouts. Your contributions will help drive innovation in SOC design and improve workflows through automation.

Requirements

  • BS degree in a technical discipline with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience designing analog and mixed-signal layouts in deep-submicron CMOS and FinFET technologies.
  • Strong programming/scripting skills in SKILL, Perl, TCL, Shell, and/or Python.
  • Solid understanding of supervised and self-supervised learning, convolutional neural networks, and core training concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with PyTorch for model development and experimentation.
  • Proven record in implementing high-quality analog layouts with tight device matching, low noise, and low power consumption.
  • Familiarity with failure-prone circuit/layout structures and analog best practices.
  • Strong proficiency in custom and standard-cell floor planning and physical integration.
  • Technical understanding of IR drop, RC delay, electromigration, and related reliability concerns.
  • High proficiency in interpreting physical verification reports, including DRC, ERC, and LVS.
  • Experience using advanced Cadence Virtuoso features and familiarity with Cadence Innovus.
  • Experience with CAD automation workflows and PCell creation.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Convert design concepts into silicon by collaborating with circuit designers.
  • Use advanced CAD tools to create high-performance analog and mixed-signal layouts.
  • Review floor plans, analyze circuits, and run verification suites.
  • Resolve LVS, DRC, and ERC issues to ensure the delivery of next-generation SOCs.
  • Drive automation by developing scripts and improving workflows.
  • Apply AI/ML techniques for layout optimization and verification acceleration.
  • Implement intelligent quality metrics and reduce manual effort in design processes.
  • Provide data-driven design insights to enhance overall design efficiency.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
