Job description
As a Flex DFM Engineer at Apple, you will play a crucial role in designing flexible printed circuit boards (Flex PCBs) and leading the evaluation and implementation of fabrication and assembly solutions. You will collaborate with Apple Product Design and Hardware Engineering to ensure manufacturing solutions meet quality, cost, yield, and environmental goals. This position requires a deep understanding of Flex fabrication processes and the ability to manage multiple assignments with a detail-oriented focus. Your contributions will significantly impact Apple products and their production across various business units.
Requirements
- B.S./M.S. degree in Chemical, Materials Science, Mechanical, Electrical or related fields with 5+ years of research, process or product development experience.
- Experience selecting materials and manufacturing processes based on engineering requirements in a professional environment.
- Established capability in statistical data analysis, including DOE and SPC.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated leadership ability.
- Strong communication skills to articulate technical details to diverse professional backgrounds.
- Ph.D. degree in relevant engineering fields with research or process development in flexible electronics or semiconductor fabrication.
- Knowledge of industry specifications for Flex and/or Rigid PCBs and assemblies.
- Experience in failure mode analysis and problem solving for product yield and quality issues.
Responsibilities
- Partner with Apple Product Design and Hardware Engineering to design Flex PCBs.
- Lead the evaluation and implementation of end-to-end fabrication and assembly solutions.
- Ensure manufacturing solutions meet product quality, cost, yield, capacity, schedule, and environmental goals.
- Drive technical leadership at global supplier sites during NPI and production ramps.
- Participate in communication with overseas team members and travel internationally to support project implementation.
- Manage multiple assignments simultaneously with a focus on documentation and organization.
- Conduct failure analysis and drive corrective actions for product yield and quality issues.
