Job description
The Embedded Firmware Engineer will join Apple's Wireless Connectivity Silicon team, focusing on the development of embedded firmware for System on a Chip (SoC) bring up and wireless connectivity enablement. This role involves collaboration with product software and manufacturing teams to ensure effective RF and PHY calibrations and testing. The engineer will work on signal processing algorithm implementation and performance tuning within a highly integrated engineering environment. This position is critical for delivering functional wireless products to millions of customers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 10+ years of industry experience.
- Strong background in embedded firmware development using C and assembly languages.
- Familiarity with ARM CPUs and their internals.
- Good understanding of embedded wireless communication systems and key RF performance metrics.
- Experience with low-level hardware interfaces and bare-metal software development.
- Fluency in using lab equipment such as logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
- Proficient in at least one scripting language such as Python, Perl, or Tcl.
Responsibilities
- Craft and implement embedded firmware for SoC bring up and wireless connectivity enablement.
- Work closely with product software and manufacturing teams to provide system-level API and firmware functionality.
- Develop SoC test and calibration capabilities for wafer, module, and system factories.
- Collaborate with RF/Radio design, DVT, PHY, and System engineering teams to implement innovative algorithms and protocols.
- Debug real-time systems with limited visibility using development boards and lab equipment.
- Support pre-silicon validation efforts, including simulation and FPGA prototyping.
- Support post-silicon bring up, validation, and performance characterization.
