Job description

The role is for an Embedded Firmware Engineer within Apple's Wireless Connectivity Silicon team, focusing on the development of firmware for System on a Chip (SoC) solutions. The team emphasizes energy-efficient design and innovative technologies that enhance user experiences. The engineer will work closely with product software and manufacturing teams to enable RF and PHY calibrations and testing. This position involves hands-on debugging and collaboration with various engineering teams to ensure successful productization of wireless silicon.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 10+ years of industry experience.
  • Strong background in embedded firmware development using C and assembly languages.
  • Familiarity with ARM CPUs and their internals.
  • Good understanding of embedded wireless communication systems and key RF performance metrics.
  • Experience with low-level hardware interfaces and bare-metal software development.
  • Proficient in at least one scripting language such as Python, Perl, or Tcl.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

Responsibilities

  • Craft and implement embedded firmware for SoC bring up and wireless connectivity enablement.
  • Work closely with product software and manufacturing teams to provide system-level API and firmware functionality.
  • Develop SoC test and calibration capabilities for wafer, module, and system factories.
  • Collaborate with RF/Radio design, DVT, PHY, and System engineering teams to define and implement algorithms and protocols.
  • Debug real-time systems with limited visibility using development boards and lab equipment.
  • Support pre-silicon validation efforts, including simulation, emulation, and FPGA prototyping.
  • Support post-silicon bringup, validation, performance characterization, and system integration.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
