Job description

Join Apple's wireless silicon development team as an FPGA Prototyping Design Engineer, where you will focus on developing Wireless SoCs with custom hardware accelerators. This role emphasizes energy-efficient design and collaboration across various engineering disciplines. You will work closely with SoC architects and IP developers to meet power, performance, and area goals for Apple devices. The position requires a proactive approach to defining processes and methodologies for complex SoC design and implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in design and verification using Verilog/SystemVerilog.
  • Good understanding of CDC and FPGA timing constraints.
  • Exposure to Linux environment.
  • Proven experience with bring up, debugging, and verification on Xilinx FPGA.
  • Good understanding of I2C, SPI, and UART protocols.
  • Experience debugging with ILA.
  • Experience in designing using Vivado IP integrator.
  • Experience with high-speed SERDES or PCIe.
  • Experience in FPGA development for wireless applications.
  • Understanding of wireless standards, such as IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth.
  • Experience with single or multi-FPGA platforms, specifically Synopsys HAPS.
  • Experience writing 'make' based build systems.
  • Programming skills in Python and Tcl, with AI-assisted coding experience.
  • Experience with version control systems like Git, Perforce, or TeamCity.
  • FW development and debugging experience with ARM processors is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Wireless SoCs with custom hardware accelerators and multiple ARM-based sub-systems.
  • Integrate industry standard and custom hardware IP into SoCs.
  • Collaborate with SoC architects and IP developers to achieve design goals.
  • Define processes, methods, and tools for the design and implementation of complex SoCs.
  • Develop and maintain methodology and flow checks for designs.
  • Interact with the verification team to ensure validation and coverage goals are met.
  • Ensure security assumptions for the chip are accurately implemented.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary groups to deliver high-quality designs on time.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
