Job description
This role is part of a small team in Apple's Software Engineering division focused on enhancing the developer experience through well-designed APIs. The team provides guidance and support to framework engineering teams, ensuring that APIs are consistent, complete, and intuitive. The primary focus of this position is to help design public-facing frameworks and improve the overall developer experience. The role offers an opportunity to specialize in areas that align with individual strengths while contributing to the evolution of Apple's software quality efforts.
Requirements
- 5-10 years of experience working in software development in Swift or Objective-C
- A strong understanding of software architecture and API design
- Strong written and presentation skills to communicate effectively with engineers and senior leaders
- Proven ability to ramp up quickly on new technologies
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Hard-working with the ability to work autonomously
Responsibilities
- Advise framework teams to help transform feature plans and underlying technologies into well-architected, developer-focused APIs.
- Evaluate proposals and provide concrete feedback on ergonomics, consistency with guidelines and precedents, and interaction with other parts of the developer experience.
- Evangelize and teach new Swift features and framework-development guidelines to Apple engineering teams.
- Assess API coverage and completeness and identify areas where additional interfaces are needed.
- Identify salient points from API Review discussions and new SDK releases to expand and improve on published API Guidelines.
- Work with other Apple teams to integrate organizational goals.
- Participate in the stewardship and evolution of Apple's software quality efforts and processes.
