Job description
The Applied AI Engineer role at Apple focuses on driving the future of Apple's data platform by leveraging AI to enhance data engineering and data science capabilities. The position involves building and operating production-grade AI products, particularly those utilizing large language models (LLMs) and agentic systems. Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience building scalable systems and frameworks.
- 3+ years of experience taking LLM or agentic systems from prototype to production.
- Deep fluency in the modern AI stack and a solid foundation in machine learning and deep learning.
- Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language such as Python, Scala, Java, or Go.
- Hands-on fluency with modern LLM and agent frameworks, vector databases, and agentic architectures.
- Experience with the data infrastructure ecosystem, SQL engines, and lakehouse architectures.
- A strategic product mindset paired with a research sensibility.
- MS or BS in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and operate production-grade AI products composed of LLMs and agents.
- Diagnose production issues related to models, data, and retrieval.
- Implement production discipline for AI systems, including evaluation harnesses and telemetry.
- Communicate clearly across cross-functional teams to influence product strategy.
- Evangelize AI engineering practices through workshops and technical guidance.
- Build AI capabilities that integrate with existing data infrastructure.
- Customize models and prompts at scale for domain-specific tasks.
- Leverage cloud computing platforms and stream-processing systems for real-time applications.
