JobsGPU Top Level Physical Design Engineer
Job description
As a GPU Top Level Physical Design engineer in the Silicon Technologies group, you will play a crucial role in designing and manufacturing high-performance, power-efficient GPUs. This position requires a blend of strategic engineering and hands-on technical work, focusing on implementing complete chip design from netlist to tapeout. You will collaborate with various teams to drive physical aspects early in the design cycle and develop methodologies for best-in-class GPU design. Your work will directly impact the technology that powers Apple devices, enabling customers to enjoy seamless experiences.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with ASIC integration including floorplanning, clock and power distribution, global signal planning, I/O planning, or hard IP integration.
- Familiarity with hierarchical design approaches, top-down design, budgeting, timing, or physical convergence.
- Proficiency in floorplanning tools, P&R flows, global timing verification, and physical design verification flows.
- Experience integrating IP from both internal and external vendors and specifying IP requirements in the physical domain.
- Knowledge of physical design topics such as multiple voltage and clock domains, ESD solutions, and mixed signal block integration.
- Experience with large subsystem designs exceeding 20 million gates with frequencies over 1GHz.
- Understanding of process-related design issues including design for yield and manufacturability, multi Vt strategies, and thermal management.
- Proven track record in solving complex physical design and cross-functional problems.
Responsibilities
- Implement complete chip design from netlist to tapeout.
- Collaborate with the front-end team to understand RTL and drive physical aspects early in the design cycle.
- Develop methodologies and best practices for GPU design.
- Create physical design guidelines and checklists, and supervise execution and progress.
- Serve as the focal point for place and route integration at the top level.
- Communicate and drive the needs of physical design with cross-functional teams.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
