Job description

The role is for an experienced RTL Engineer within Apple's Silicon Engineering Group, focusing on the architecture and RTL development of next-generation CPUs. The team is dedicated to designing high-performance, low-power microprocessors that power Apple's innovative products. The engineer will be involved in microarchitecture development, RTL feature ownership, and validation processes. This position offers the opportunity to work with multifunctional engineering teams to ensure the successful delivery of cutting-edge technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Experience with microprocessor architecture.
  • Proficiency in Verilog or VHDL.
  • Knowledge of logic design principles.
  • Expertise in areas such as instruction fetch and decode, branch prediction, and cache subsystems.
  • Understanding of timing, power, and area tradeoffs in CPU microarchitecture.
  • Familiarity with low power and high performance microarchitecture techniques.
  • Experience using an interpretive language such as Perl or Python.
  • Experience with simulators and waveform debugging tools like Verdi.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and specify microarchitecture from high-level exploration to detailed specifications.
  • Own the development, assessment, and refinement of new RTL features targeting power, performance, area, and timing goals.
  • Support test bench development and simulation for functional and performance verification.
  • Explore high performance strategies and validate that the RTL design meets targeted performance.
  • Collaborate with multifunctional engineering teams to implement and validate physical design aspects.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
