The UI Engineer will be part of the ML Data & Applications team within the DMLI organization, focusing on enhancing the Apple Foundation Model and advancing machine learning research. This role involves developing an internal product that showcases the capabilities of the Apple Foundation Model while providing valuable data for model improvement. The engineer will collaborate closely with product feature teams to create data visualization approaches that enhance the user experience of large language models. The position requires a blend of technical skills in front-end development and a strong understanding of data visualization.
Requirements
- Experience building front-end applications using Typescript, React, and other UI frameworks.
- Expertise in modern Javascript and data visualization libraries such as D3, VisX, and Vega.
- Familiarity with API development using web frameworks like Express.
- Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest and Mocha.
- Familiarity with at least one backend programming language, such as Python.
- Ability to think about data in terms of statistical distributions and identify patterns.
- Strong judgment in balancing art and science in visual communication.
- Ability to work with large and complex datasets using tools like Hive, Spark SQL, and Druid.
- Self-motivated and curious with creative and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Develop data visualization approaches for understanding complex aspects of the LLM user experience.
- Build analytic, visualization, and information products to automate insights for science and engineering teams.
- Guide best practices on the visual presentation of information and information architecture of LLM products.
- Perform exploratory data analyses to enrich mental models about LLM usage.
- Collaborate with Apple Foundation Model and SWE product feature teams.
- Influence decisions with information through effective communication.
