Job description

The CPU ML Microarchitect/RTL Engineer role at Apple involves driving the architecture and RTL development of machine-learning accelerators for Apple Silicon. This position is part of the Silicon Engineering Group, which focuses on designing high-performance, low-power microprocessors for various Apple products. The engineer will engage in micro-architecture development, RTL ownership, and performance exploration. The role requires collaboration with multi-functional engineering teams to ensure the successful implementation and verification of designs.

Requirements

  • Minimum BS degree and 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience with microprocessor architecture
  • Experience with logic design principles considering timing and power implications
  • Experience in Verilog or VHDL
  • Experience with simulators and waveform debugging processes
  • Expertise in areas such as out-of-order execution and instruction scheduling
  • Understanding of low power microarchitecture techniques
  • Understanding of high-performance techniques and trade-offs in CPU microarchitecture
  • Experience in C or C++ programming
  • Experience using an interpretive language such as Perl or Python

Responsibilities

  • Develop and specify micro-architecture from high-level exploration to detailed specifications
  • Own the development, assessment, and refinement of RTL design to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals
  • Support the verification team in developing test benches and using formal methods for functional verification
  • Explore high-performance strategies and verify that the RTL design meets performance targets
  • Collaborate with multi-functional engineering teams to implement and verify physical design aspects

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
