Job description

The role is for a CPU Microarchitect/RTL Engineer within Apple's Silicon Engineering Group, focusing on the architecture and RTL development of CPU front-end and out-of-order subsystems. The team is dedicated to designing high-performance, low-power microprocessors that power Apple's innovative products. The position requires a blend of technical leadership and hands-on engineering to drive micro-architecture development and verification processes. Candidates will work collaboratively with multi-functional engineering teams to ensure design delivery meets stringent performance and power goals.

Requirements

  • Minimum BS degree and 10+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience with microprocessor architecture
  • Experience with logic design principles with timing and power implications
  • Experience in Verilog or VHDL
  • Experience with simulators and waveform debugging processes
  • Expertise in instruction fetch and decode, branch prediction, instruction scheduling, register renaming, or out-of-order execution
  • Understanding of low power microarchitecture techniques
  • Understanding of high-performance techniques and trade-offs in CPU microarchitecture
  • Experience in C or C++ programming
  • Experience using an interpretive language such as Perl or Python

Responsibilities

  • Develop and specify micro-architecture from high-level exploration to detailed specifications
  • Own the development, assessment, and refinement of RTL design targeting power, performance, area, and timing goals
  • Support the verification team in test bench development, formal methods, and simulation/emulation for functional verification
  • Explore high-performance strategies and work with the performance verification team to ensure RTL design meets performance targets
  • Collaborate with multi-functional engineering teams to implement and verify physical design aspects including timing, area, reliability, testability, and power

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
