Job description

The CPU Microarchitect/RTL Engineer role at Apple involves driving the architecture and RTL development of CPU front-end and out-of-order subsystems for high-performance microprocessors. The position is part of Apple's Silicon Engineering Group, which focuses on creating innovative products like the iPhone and Mac. The engineer will engage in micro-architecture development, RTL ownership, and performance exploration. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and collaboration with multi-functional engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Minimum BS degree and 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience with microprocessor architecture
  • Experience with logic design principles with timing and power implications
  • Experience in Verilog or VHDL
  • Experience with simulators and waveform debugging processes
  • Expertise in areas such as out-of-order execution, instruction scheduling, and cache and memory subsystems
  • Understanding of low power microarchitecture techniques
  • Understanding of high-performance techniques and trade-offs in CPU microarchitecture
  • Experience in C or C++ programming
  • Experience using an interpretive language such as Perl or Python

Responsibilities

  • Develop and specify micro-architecture from high-level exploration to detailed specifications.
  • Own the development, assessment, and refinement of RTL design to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals.
  • Support the verification team in developing test benches and conducting functional verification.
  • Explore high-performance strategies and verify that the RTL design meets performance targets.
  • Collaborate with a multi-functional engineering team to implement and verify physical design aspects.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
