Job description
The SPEAR team at Apple is seeking a collaborative OS platform software engineer focused on enhancing the security of end user devices. This team works on high-impact projects that improve the security of critical operating system components. The role involves delivering robust infrastructure and mitigations to eliminate software vulnerabilities. The engineer will contribute to cross-functional collaboration and thorough documentation to ensure the security of Apple's products.
Requirements
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience/skills
- Understanding of system-level concepts including multi-threaded design and resource management
- Experience implementing software following object-oriented design principles
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively about technical topics
- Enthusiastic, empathetic, and collaborative approach to multi-functional projects
- Understanding of the foundations of a system programming language such as C, C++, Swift, or Rust
Responsibilities
- Efficiently gain familiarity with the design and implementation of existing codebases.
- Contribute to the design of security hardening projects such as memory safety technology adoption and mitigation deployment.
- Update existing software codebases or create new codebases to achieve security goals.
- Implement projects using appropriate programming languages, potentially including Swift, Objective-C, or C++.
- Adopt or update unit tests and collaborate with QA engineers on functional testing.
- Document changes and new architectural elements, creating necessary training materials for partner teams.
- Communicate collaboratively and effectively during all project phases.
