Job description
This role is part of Apple's Silicon Technologies group, focusing on the design and manufacture of high-performance, power-efficient GPUs. The position requires a blend of strategic engineering and hands-on experience in physical design and large chip integration. The successful candidate will work closely with front-end teams to optimize chip architecture and drive physical design aspects. The main focus is on implementing complete chip design from RTL to tapeout while ensuring best-in-class physical implementations.
Requirements
- BS degree with 10 years of relevant experience in ASIC implementation.
- Proven ability in all aspects of ASIC implementation including Synthesis, DFT insertion, Floorplanning, and Place and Route.
- Experience with industry standard physical implementation tools and PPA optimization flows.
- Proficiency in TCL, Perl, or Python scripting.
- Experience with multi-voltage, power gated, and power retention designs.
- Knowledge of hierarchical design approaches and physical convergence.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the front-end team to understand chip architecture and drive physical aspects early in the design cycle.
- Drive best-in-class physical design construction and optimization recipes for performance, power, and area.
- Collaborate to develop methodologies and best known methods to streamline physical design work.
- Lead and resolve design and flow issues related to physical design, identifying potential solutions and driving execution.
- Work cross-functionally to ensure delivery of high-quality physical implementations.
- Track and manage the work among place and route engineers, setting goals and planning short and long-term work.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage.
