Job description

The Intelligence System Experience (ISE) team at Apple is seeking engineers passionate about Generative AI to work on innovative generative modeling technologies. This role involves collaborating with a cross-functional team to build infrastructure for training, adapting, and deploying large-scale generative models. Candidates should have deep expertise in machine learning infrastructure and be technically hands-on. The team's focus includes multimodal machine learning and enhancing user experiences through advanced AI technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a focus on machine learning.
  • Experience in training and adapting large language models and diffusion models.
  • Advanced fluency in PyTorch.
  • Excellent programming skills and experience contributing to large software projects.
  • Experience with distributed training of large models.
  • Strong machine learning fundamentals.
  • Experience working with large cross-functional and diverse teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform training optimizations and profiling targeting vision and language pre-training.
  • Research training recipes for effective scheduling of multimodal training workloads.
  • Conduct experimentation and tooling for post-training ablations including reward modeling, distillation, and prompt optimization.
  • Coordinate with post-training algorithm owners to analyze quality and performance tradeoffs of downstream capabilities.
  • Execute ablations involving optimization-aware fine-tuning.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
