This role is focused on building the next generation of generative AI applications at Apple, particularly in assessing and improving the safety and inclusivity of AI-powered features. As part of Apple's Responsible AI group, the position involves tackling innovative problems in machine learning, especially with large language and diffusion models. The team is dedicated to ensuring fairness, robustness, and explainability in AI systems. The role combines applied data science with cross-functional collaboration to enhance user experience through thoughtful evaluations.
Requirements
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related fields, or equivalent qualification.
- Experience working with generative models for evaluation and product development.
- Strong engineering skills and experience in writing production-quality code in Python.
- Deep experience in foundation model-based AI programming.
- Experience working with noisy, crowd-based data labels and human evaluations.
- Experience working in the Responsible AI space.
- Prior scientific research and publication experience.
- Strong organizational and operational skills.
Responsibilities
- Develop, carry out, interpret, and communicate evaluations of the safety of Apple Intelligence features.
- Leverage both human grading and model-based auto-grading for evaluations.
- Research and develop auto-grading methodology and infrastructure.
- Produce safety evaluations that align with Apple’s Responsible AI values.
- Conduct thoughtful data sampling, creation, and curation for evaluation datasets.
- Provide high quality, detailed annotations and careful auto-grading to assess feature performance.
- Analyze evaluation results to understand their implications for user experience.
