Job description
The CPU team at Apple is seeking a CPU Power Engineer to focus on power modeling and reduction, as well as correlating pre-silicon expectations with post-silicon measurements. This role involves collaboration across multiple disciplines to ensure the delivery of power-efficient products. The ideal candidate will contribute to innovative micro-architecture ideas and work closely with various teams to optimize CPU power efficiency. A strong background in VLSI design and power management features is essential for success in this position.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 3+ years of industry experience
- Broad knowledge related to VLSI design, manufacturing, circuit analysis, and logic design
- Familiarity with high-performance CPU architecture and power performance trade-offs
- Knowledge of logic design principles along with timing and power implications
- Solid programming and Python scripting experience
- Strong CMOS design and analysis skills
- Strong hands-on lab experience characterizing and productizing power management features
Responsibilities
- Generate and drive new ideas in micro-architecture and/or circuits to reduce CPU power
- Drive budgeting, measurements, and analysis of CPU power for several use cases
- Work with micro-architects and physical designers to study power reduction opportunities
- Conduct pre and post-silicon power modeling and measurement across several use cases on current and future CPU designs
- Collaborate with software and platform teams to optimize CPU power efficiency and usage of power management features
- Drive power management feature definition and silicon tuning
- Create early power models to drive architectural trade-offs
